Unlocking Salford Quays

Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Lowry, their new sculpture trail, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, is now open. Thanks to the work of local people, they ’ve amassed a huge collection of work that tells the hidden history of the area.

Part 1 of this is a Special Exhibition you can ‘unlock’ the past - see the research, artwork and photography that has inspired the 5 public artists creating the sculptures. See their models and drawings for the sculptures themselves and relate your memories and impressions of the Quays. This is to be found on The Deck in the Lowry.

Part 2 is a Heritage Trail around the quays with the sculptures now in place at Five Heritage Points:

Where the Wild Things Were outside the Lowry at North Bay (was the corner of 8 Pier and 9 Dock),

Casuals on Trafford Wharf,

Factory Girls at East Wharf North and the end of St Francis Basin (was the end of 7 Dock),

Erie's Rest in Erie Basin by the new Mariner's Canal (was the top end of 9 Dock)

Nine Dock on the quayside at MediaCityUK (was Manchester Liner's Container berth).

The link The Lowry - Unlocking Salford Quays will take you to their web site where you can follow the trail.

The exhibition of Unlocking Salford Quays The Inside Story is on The Deck in the Lowry, Pier 8, Salford Quays M50 3AZ.

Part 1 the exhibition is only open until the end of May 2011
